Welcome to Troop 405!

Excellence in Scouting:

Troop 405 is a Scout-planned, Scout-led Troop, founded in 1986 and charted by Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown, TX.  Over 40% of our Scouts attain the Eagle Scout Rank, but 100% of our Scouts leave our program with exposure to new outdoor experiences, leadership abilities, friends, and values. As of February 2025, we have had 213 young men reach the rank of Eagle Scout!

Our Scouts have performed lifesaving acts and have won awards for phenomenal conservation projects. Our Scouts are members of the National Honor Society, have received National Merit Scholarships, have been recognized by the National Eagle Scout Association for their excellent Eagle Scout Service Projects, and include accomplished athletes and musicians. Our Scouts have been recognized with the OA Vigil Honor, served as NYLT Staff members, served in the U.S. military, and include ordained ministers as well as Philmont Scout Ranch employees. Scouts in our unit are exposed to the opportunities, leadership skills, outdoor experiences, life lessons, and moral values necessary to achieve these great accomplishments.

Outdoor Program, Adventure, and Service to Others:

Troop 405 Scouts use the “Patrol Method”, meaning they plan and lead the Outdoor Program. Scouts will plan where they want to go, what they want to do, and what they will cook for meals while they are there. Monthly campout activities include hiking, caving, sailing, backpacking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, rappelling, and more. Summer camp highlights include Colorado, Missouri, and Arkansas.

Troop 405's partnership with Venturing Crew 405 allows our Scouts to attend Philmont Scout Ranch every year through the Crew’s program. Our partnership with Sea Scout Ship 405 allows our Scouts to experience the Texas 200, a 200-mile sailing course off the beautiful Gulf of Mexico through their program. Troop 405 annually sends older Scouts to exhilarating National High Adventure Bases at Philmont (New Mexico), Northern Tier (Minnesota/Canada), and Sea Base (Florida).

Our Scouts are also consistently planning and offering service opportunities for the boys to take part in. Eagle Scout Service Projects are offered on weekends every few months, where one of the Scouts will lead his peers in accomplishing a notable service project to a community organization or other beneficiary as he accomplishes his final challenge on his journey to the Eagle Scout Rank. We also host occasional trash pickups, river cleanups, and help out our connected Cub Scout Pack 405 as a part of our normal weekend programs throughout the year.

Meetings:

Scout meetings are held most Mondays between 7:00-8:00pm at Christ Lutheran Church in the meeting hall. Activities consist of merit badge classes, planning, rank advancement, holiday parties, and especially scout skill games, demonstration, and practice. We also host “Courts of Honor” three times a year to recognize Scouts for their hard work.

What is Expected of Scouts:

The scouting program is designed so that the more effort scouts put into it, the more they will get out of the program. We expect him to actively participate in meetings, campouts, and especially summer camp experiences. This is critical if he wants to get the full value out of the Scouting program; those who are ambitious, active, and excited to learn will have the most rewarding Scouting experiences of all. We expect and encourage him to fully enjoy school programs and sports, but want him to seek a balance between Scouting and other activities so as to prevent him from missing out on key growth and fun opportunities.

Consistently advancing in rank along the Trail to Eagle is a way for a Scout to show both himself and others that he is accomplishing something notable and that his efforts are purposeful in this program.

Troop 405 Scouts proudly wear the full Scout Uniform (uniform shirt, pants, belt, socks, and normal shirt) to every meeting, activity, and campout. Boys should wear their Merit Badge Sash and OA Sash to applicable events.

What is Expected of Parents:

We hope and recommend that you involve yourself in the program just as much as your Scout does! Your role may include attending weekly meetings, getting to know the other adults, going on campouts alongside your son, and familiarizing yourself with the ways you can pitch in and do a little behind-the-scenes work to help support the troop in your own way. Just think of it as committing 1 hour a week to start!

We highly recommend all adults attend our monthly Troop Committee Meeting (or parent meeting), which we host every second Monday alongside the normal Scout meeting. At these meetings, the youth leadership will share their planned schedule, and adults will discuss scheduling, general planning, upcoming events, and where help is needed within the program’s execution.

Starting Fees + Annual Costs:

Starting Fees + Annual Costs:

Costs for youth members are about $149 per year for annual dues (national BSA fees, insurance, Troop dues), or $12.50 a month. Costs for adult volunteers are about $49 per year, or $4 a month.

There will be additional starting costs to purchase uniforms, patches, and your son’s Scout Book so he can fully enjoy the program. You may also need to purchase some basic camping gear if you do not already have some or if the Troop does not supply you with all that you need. Campouts are usually $15-$35 so we can pay to reserve campsites and Scouts can pay each other for purchasing the weekend’s menu appropriately. These fees are surprisingly low considering the value you receive out of all the elements you are paying for.

A scout can offset the membership, supply, and campout fees of our Troop by actively participating in our annual Mulch Fundraiser. Not only is this a great way for him to fund the fun he is having, but also to develop advertising, salesmanship, and public speaking skills.
